She begged us to take her home.
I was not there in the hospital with her. They would not let us come and be with her. I talked to the nurses several times a day with updates. We did video calls with my mother when she was awake but all she could say to us is that she wanted to come home.
My mother, Brenda Kay Campbell died on 12/6/21. She had COVID 19 and was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on 11/8/21. We did a home test and it came back positive. But they never did a test at the hospital which we demanded every day that she was in the hospital but they never did.
She was doing okay the first few days, still she was really sick. She understood what was going on the first few days. Then we found out they were giving her Remdesivir but we also found out that they were giving her some kind of anxiety medicine (not sure of the name) but I pled with them not to give her that as her mother had complications with that type of medicine. We could tell she was not in her right mind, kind of loopy I guess you could say. They were giving her this anxiety medication so they could give her the Remdesivir because when she first got to the hospital, my mother refused the Remdesivir so they had to give her anxiety medication so she would not know what they were giving her.
We kept telling them that she is not in her right mind. They said, “yes she is” nothing indicates that she is not. Totally wrong. I know my mother and that was not her. They also gave her Baricitinib. I would ask about these medicines everyday with the doctors and nurses and they told us on several occasions that she is getting better, and we believed them.
We requested that they give her the medication Hydroxychloroquine but they refused this medicine. We requested that she be transferred to a different hospital but said we would have to pay out of pocket for this transfer. When we agreed and said ok then the hospital staff came up with something else. They tried to say my mother signed a DNR and that is why they could not transfer her.
She did not sign a DNR and could not provide proof. There are too many cover ups. After she passed and we went to get her belongings from the hospital, a pamphlet about the Baricitinib was in her bag. It was the only piece of paper in her bag. Someone was trying to tell us something. My mother passed away on 12/6/23. She was in the hospital for 28 days isolated from her family.
